# Agents
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/agents
Build, manage, and run automated marketing workflows.
An agent is a reusable workflow with a goal, a set of tools, and an optional schedule. Configure the goal once — the agent runs it every time, manually or on a schedule.
## How agents work
Each agent runs a sequence of AI-powered steps:
1. **Research** — searches Google, reads competitor pages, mines Reddit, pulls Search Console data
2. **Planning** — builds a keyword brief, generates an outline, brainstorms titles
3. **Execution** — writes content section by section, runs QA passes
4. **Delivery** — publishes to your CMS, posts to Slack, or emails you the result
## Creating an agent
**From the Home chat (recommended for new users)**
Type your goal in the Home chat. The assistant will ask clarifying questions and launch the workflow automatically.
**From the Agents page**
1. Click **+ New Agent** in the top right.
2. Give the agent a name and optional description.
3. Lantern opens the agent builder where you configure tools, goal, and schedule.
## The agent builder
The left panel of any agent's detail page is a conversational interface. Type instructions directly to configure the agent:
* "Focus this agent on long-form thought leadership content"
* "Add voice and tone QA to the pipeline"
* "Schedule this to run every Monday at 9am"
The AI interprets your instructions and updates the agent configuration accordingly.
## Running an agent
Click **Run** in the top right of the agent detail page to trigger it immediately. A live step list appears in the right panel showing exactly what the AI is doing.
**What the steps look like:**
| What's happening | What you see |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Searching for keyword data | Studying the rankings for "your keyword" |
| Finding audience questions | Mining questions people ask about "your keyword" |
| Browsing Reddit | Eavesdropping on Reddit for "your keyword" |
| Reading a competitor page | Reading competitor.com |
| Writing a section | Writing: "Section heading from your outline" |
| Polishing the draft | Polishing the flow and fixing transitions |
| Checking brand voice | Checking voice and tone consistency |
| Publishing | Publishing "Article title" to WordPress |
## Viewing results
When a run completes, the result appears in the right panel:
| Agent type | Output |
| ---------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Content | Full rich-text article, editable inline |
| SEO | Structured audit report with scores and recommendations |
| Ads | Campaign copy with headlines, descriptions, and targeting notes |
| Research | Structured document with cited sources |
| PR | Press release or pitch copy |
For content runs, a rich-text editor opens inline — edit, format, and save directly. If your CMS is connected, a **Publish** button appears to push content live.
## Scheduling
Tell the agent builder in plain English:
* "Run every Monday at 8am"
* "Run daily at 6am"
* "Run on the first of every month"
Scheduled agents appear in the **Scheduled** tab of the Agents page.
## Templates
Pre-built starting points available from the **Templates** tab:
| Template | What it does |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| SEO Blog Post | Research, outline, write, and publish a full article from a keyword |
| Competitor Gap Analysis | Find topics competitors rank for that you haven't covered |
| AI Brand Visibility Monitor | Track brand mentions across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini |
| Content Refresh | Identify pages losing traffic and regenerate updated drafts |
## Managing agents
* **Search** — filter agents by name using the search bar
* **Filter by owner** — toggle **Anyone / Me** to see all workspace agents or only your own
* **Delete** — click `⋯` on any agent card → **Delete**. This permanently removes the agent and all run history
# AI Visibility
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/analytics/ai-visibility
Track how prominently your brand appears across AI search engines.
The AI Visibility page is your brand's analytics hub for AI-powered search. It shows how often your brand appears when buyers ask questions relevant to your category across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini.
## AI Visibility score
Your **AI Visibility Score** is a 0–100 measure of how prominently your brand appears in AI-generated responses.
The score is calculated by submitting buying-intent prompts to multiple AI models and measuring whether your brand is mentioned, how prominently, and in what context.
**Score card shows:**
* Current score (0–100)
* Delta vs the previous period
* Trend chart over time
## AI Rankings table
Below the score chart, the rankings table shows:
* **Your brand's rank** — where you appear in AI-generated responses vs competitors
* **Competitor comparison** — how your score compares against brands you track
* **Rank delta** — whether you moved up or down since the last analysis
## Top Sources
The **Top Sources** section shows which third-party domains AI models cite most often when answering questions about your category.
Use this to identify which publications, review sites, and platforms have the most influence over AI responses — and whether your brand has coverage there.
If your score is rising but AI referral traffic isn't, it suggests AI models mention you but don't link to you — a content and structured data problem worth investigating with the [Citations](/analytics/citations) page.
## Running an analysis
Click **Run Analysis** to trigger a fresh visibility scan. Results populate all four tabs: Visibility, Traffic, Citations, and Search Console.
# Citations
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/analytics/citations
See every domain AI models cited when answering questions about your category.
When an AI model answers a buying-intent question like "What is the best project management software?", it references specific sources — a G2 review, a Reddit thread, a blog post. These are **citations**. The more your domain appears as a citation, the more influential you are in AI-driven discovery.
## Citation table
| Column | Description |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Domain | The cited website |
| Citation count | How many times it was cited across all prompts |
| Category | The topic cluster the citation appeared in |
## Filtering
* **Search** by domain name
* **Filter by platform** — Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, Medium, G2, or all
## How to use this
**Domains you don't have content on** — Reddit threads and G2 pages that AI cites frequently are opportunities. Consider responding to relevant Reddit threads or completing your G2 profile.
**Competitor domains appearing frequently** — means competitors have content AI trusts. Study that content and produce better alternatives.
**Your own domain in the list** — means your content is being cited. Reinforce it with more depth, fresh data, and updated statistics.
# Prompt Analysis
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/analytics/prompt-analysis
See how AI models respond to your tracked prompts, and manage your prompt library.
The Prompt Analysis page has two sections: **Analysis** and **Prompt Library**.
## Analysis
Shows AI response patterns when your tracked prompts are submitted to AI models. You can see:
* Which prompts your brand appears in
* Which prompts you're absent from
* Patterns in how AI models answer questions in your category
## Prompt Library
The Prompt Library is a collection of buying-intent questions that Lantern submits to AI models during visibility analysis runs.
**Managing topics:**
1. Click **Add Topic** to create a topic group (e.g. "Project Management", "Content Marketing").
2. Add individual prompts under each topic (e.g. "What is the best content marketing tool for SMBs?").
3. Lantern uses these prompts in every future visibility analysis run.
**Editing and deleting:**
* Click the pencil icon next to any topic or prompt to rename it inline.
* Click the trash icon and confirm to delete.
The quality of your prompt library directly determines the accuracy of your AI Visibility score. Well-written buying-intent prompts that reflect how your actual buyers search produce actionable data. Aim for 20–30 prompts covering your category broadly — "best \[category] tools", "how to \[problem you solve]", and "\[your brand] alternatives".
# Traffic
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/analytics/traffic
See how people reach your website, with a focus on AI-generated traffic.
The Traffic page shows website visits with specific focus on traffic arriving from AI-powered search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
## With Google Analytics (GA4) connected
If GA4 is connected, the page shows:
* **Total sessions** over the selected period
* **AI referral sessions** — traffic from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and similar tools
* **Session trend chart**
* **Top pages** by session count
* **Country breakdown**
* **AI platform breakdown** — which AI tools are sending traffic
Connect GA4 at **Settings → Integrations**. See [Integrations](/settings/integrations).
## Without GA4 (script-based tracking)
If GA4 is not connected, Lantern can track visits via a lightweight script. The page provides a one-line script tag to add to your site's `
`.
Script-based tracking shows:
* Total visit count
* AI referral attribution
* Recent visit log with timestamp, page, and source
## AI referrals
The AI Referrals metric is the most important number on this page. It measures traffic arriving from AI-powered search. A rising count means your brand citations in AI models are translating into real website visits.
A rising AI Visibility score without a matching rise in AI referrals suggests AI models mention you but don't link to you. Check the [Citations](/analytics/citations) page for opportunities.

# Brand Book
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/brand-kit/brand-book
Define and manage every brand in your Lantern workspace.
The Brand Book is where you create and manage the brands in your workspace. Each brand stores all the context Lantern needs to produce accurate, on-brand outputs.
## What a brand stores
* **Name** and **Website URL**
* **Description** — used as context for every AI run involving this brand
* **Voice and tone guidelines**
* **Competitor list** — domains Lantern tracks for gap analysis and citation monitoring
* **Topics** — keyword focus areas that inform content planning
## Creating a brand
1. Click **New Brand**
2. Enter the brand name, website URL, and optional description
3. Click **Create**
## Editing a brand
Click into any brand card to edit all fields inline. Changes apply to all future agent runs for that brand.
## Deleting a brand
Click `⋯` → **Delete**. All associated data — visibility scores, citations, and SEO data — is permanently removed.
Most analytics pages default to your first brand. If you manage multiple brands, use the brand selector at the top of each page to switch context.
# Knowledge Bases
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/brand-kit/knowledge-bases
Give your agents access to your proprietary content and documents.
Knowledge Bases are collections of documents and web pages that agents can reference when generating content. This keeps outputs grounded in your actual product and brand — not generic web data.
## Use cases
* Upload **product documentation** so agents reference accurate feature descriptions
* Upload **case studies** so agents cite real customer outcomes in articles
* Upload **brand guidelines** so agents know which language to use and avoid
* Upload **past blog posts** so agents build on existing work rather than duplicating it
## Creating a knowledge base
1. Click **New Knowledge Base**
2. Give it a name (e.g. "Product Docs", "Case Studies")
3. Add content by uploading files (PDF, Word, plain text) or providing URLs for Lantern to fetch
## How agents use knowledge bases
Lantern uses vector embeddings for knowledge base search. When an agent runs with the `search-knowledge-base` tool, it semantically matches its working context against all documents in your knowledge bases and retrieves the most relevant passages.
Connect your knowledge base to content agents for significantly more accurate outputs. Agents with access to your product docs won't fabricate feature descriptions or use outdated information.
# Content
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/content
Manage and refresh blog posts published through your connected CMS.
The Content page shows blog posts from your connected CMS. HubSpot is fully supported; WordPress, Sanity, Contentful, and Webflow are on the roadmap.
## Content table
| Column | Description |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------- |
| Title | Post title with a link to the live post |
| Status | Draft, Published, or Scheduled |
| Published date | When the post went live |
| Last updated | Most recent edit timestamp |
## Refreshing content
Each row has a **Refresh** action. Click it to trigger an agent that:
1. Fetches the current content of the post
2. Checks what competitors are now ranking for the same keyword
3. Identifies outdated statistics, missing subtopics, and structural issues
4. Rewrites or augments the post to bring it up to date
5. Publishes the refreshed version back to your CMS
Refreshing existing content is one of the most effective ways to improve AI citations. AI models favour content that is authoritative, comprehensive, and recently updated.
## Connecting HubSpot
If HubSpot is not yet connected, the page shows a connection prompt.
1. Go to **Settings → Integrations**
2. Click **Connect HubSpot**
3. Complete the OAuth flow — the Content page populates automatically
See [Integrations](/settings/integrations) for full setup details.
# Home
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/home
Your command centre — AI chat, quick actions, and recent agent activity.
The Home page has three areas: the AI chat, quick action cards, and your recent agents list.
## AI chat
The large input at the top is a multi-turn AI assistant. Describe what you want in plain English and Lantern handles the rest.
Type what you want — "Write a blog post on generative engine optimisation" or "Run an SEO report for acme.com".
The assistant may ask one or two focused questions to sharpen the goal (e.g. target audience, website URL).
It proposes what it's about to do in one sentence and asks: "Ready to go?" — confirm to launch.
A link to the running agent appears in the chat so you can follow progress in real time.
**Suggestion chips**
If your brand is configured, pre-filled suggestion chips appear below the input:
* Write a blog post for \[Brand]
* Run an SEO report for \[Brand website]
* Draft a press release for \[Brand]
* Create a Google Ad campaign
* What can you help me with?
Click any chip to pre-fill and immediately submit it.
The Home chat is the fastest path from idea to running workflow. Use it for one-off requests. Use the [Agents](/agents) page to build workflows that run on a schedule.
## Quick action cards
| Card | Goes to |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------- |
| Create Agent | Agents page |
| View Analytics | AI Visibility for your brand |
| Manage Brand Kit | Brand Kit hub |
## Recent agents
The bottom of Home shows your six most recently updated agents with their last run time. Click any to open the agent detail page.
# Lantern Docs
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/index
The full-stack marketing agent platform for AI search. Lantern orchestrates research, content, SEO, GEO, PR, and publishing end-to-end — so your team wins AI and organic search without the manual overhead.
## What is Lantern?
Lantern is the full-stack marketing agent platform built for the AI era. Think of it as the operating system for your marketing team — describe what you want, and a multi-agent system plans and executes it step by step in real time.
The pipeline is genuinely end-to-end: keyword discovery from Google Search Console, People Also Ask, and Reddit → SERP and competitor gap analysis → structured content brief → writing → voice QA → CMS publish. Beyond blog content, Lantern handles press releases, journalist pitches, newsletters, presentations, and Google Ads campaign copy.
On top of content, Lantern monitors your brand visibility across every major AI engine — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google — so you always know where you stand and what to fix.
**1 billion+ people** search with AI every day. If your brand isn't cited, you're invisible. Lantern keeps you visible and handles the work to get you there.

## The old way vs Lantern Agents
Marketing teams used to stitch together five or more tools to do what Lantern handles end-to-end.
* SEMrush / Ahrefs — Research
* Notion / Gong — Internal knowledge base
* Jasper / Copy AI — Writing
* Surfer SEO — Optimization
* Ghost / WordPress — Publish
* Research
* Unified knowledge base
* Create
* Optimize
* Publish
**Agents, always working.**
## What Lantern does
Track your brand across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google from one dashboard. See every citation, gap, and opportunity.
Identify every AI-referred session and trace it through to conversion. Know exactly which AI engines drive real business.
Close citation gaps and increase brand visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews automatically.
Research, write, optimise, and publish end-to-end — from GSC keyword data and Reddit conversations to a CMS-published article in one orchestrated run.
Site-wide health audits, crawl reports, competitor gap analysis, and content refresh — all driven by live GSC and DataForSEO data.
Integrate Lantern data and agents directly into your existing workflows.
## Why AI search can't wait
Users are migrating to AI answer engines. Brands not optimised for AI search are losing visibility fast — and most don't know it yet.
AI answers the question before anyone visits your site. Zero-click is the new normal. Lantern helps you win the answer, not just the ranking.
Visitors arriving from AI search convert at 14.2% — versus 2.8% from standard Google clicks. The traffic quality is transformational.
## Search engines we monitor
858M+ monthly active users
650M+ monthly active users
20M+ monthly active users

# Market Landscape
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/landscape
How the AI search and content marketing space is structured — and where Lantern fits.
The market has split into four distinct categories. Most tools solve one part of the problem well. The gap between insight and execution is where most teams are losing.
## AI search monitoring
Tools in this category track where your brand appears — or doesn't — across AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini.
Profound · Otterly · Scrunch · Peec · Promptwatch · Evertune
**Where Lantern is different:** Monitoring tools tell you the gap exists. Lantern closes it. When an agent surfaces a missing citation, it generates the fix, publishes it to your CMS, and connects the result to traffic and revenue — without your team assembling a separate content workstream.
***
## AI content creation
Tools in this category help teams produce marketing content at scale using AI.
Jasper · Writesonic
**Where Lantern is different:** Content tools help you write. They do not tell you whether your brand is winning inside AI answers, and they do not connect that content to AI search outcomes. Lantern generates content specifically to close citation gaps and then measures whether it worked.
***
## AI marketing operations
Tools in this category automate marketing workflows through configurable AI pipelines.
AirOps · Goodie by NoGood · Bear AI
**Where Lantern is different:** Workflow tools give you a workbench — you configure and assemble the pipeline. Lantern deploys a system. Agents monitor, research, write, and publish from day one without canvas setup or workflow assembly.
***
## Enterprise SEO
Conductor
**Where Lantern is different:** Conductor is built around traditional search. Lantern is built for the shift to AI search, with monitoring, content execution, and attribution designed around citation presence — not just keyword rankings.
***
## The operating loop most tools are missing
Every category above solves a piece. What they don't solve together is the loop:
| Step | What it means |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Monitor** | Track citation presence across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google in real time |
| **Detect** | Identify exactly which prompts you're absent from and why |
| **Execute** | Deploy agents that research the gap, write the fix, and publish to your CMS automatically |
| **Attribute** | Connect citation gains to visits and conversions via script or CDN integration |
Lantern is the only platform that runs this loop end-to-end without switching tools.
# Onboarding
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/onboarding
Create your account, set up your first brand, and connect your integrations.
## Create your account
Go to [app.asklantern.com](https://app.asklantern.com) and sign up with your work email. You'll receive a confirmation email — click the link to verify and you'll land on the Home screen.
## Set up your first brand
A brand represents one website or product you're marketing. All analytics, agents, and content are organised around brands.
Click **Brand Kit** in the left sidebar, then select **Brand Book**.
Fill in your brand **Name**, **Website URL** (e.g. `https://acme.com`), and an optional **Description**.
This unlocks Visibility Analytics, SEO, Content, and citation tracking for that brand.
You can create multiple brands in one workspace — useful for agencies or companies managing several products.
## Connect your integrations
Connect these on day one to get the most out of Lantern:
| Integration | What it unlocks |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Google Search Console | Keyword rankings, impressions, and clicks in the SEO pages |
| Google Analytics (GA4) | Total traffic and AI referral attribution on the Traffic page |
| WordPress / HubSpot / Sanity | Direct publishing from agents to your CMS |
Go to **Settings → Integrations** to connect. See [Integrations](/settings/integrations) for step-by-step instructions for each tool.
## What to do first
Go to **Analytics → AI Visibility**, select your brand, and trigger an analysis run to get a baseline visibility score.
Go to **SEO → Search Console** to see which queries are already driving traffic to your site.
On the Home page, type "Write a blog post on \[your topic]" and let Lantern plan and execute it end-to-end.

# Quick Start
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/quickstart
Deploy your first Lantern Agent and start winning AI search in minutes.
## Get up and running in three steps
Lantern Agents monitor your brand across every major AI engine, surface citation gaps, and run content workflows — all without manual effort. Here's how to get started.
### Step 1: Create your account
Visit [asklantern.com](https://asklantern.com) and create your free account. No credit card required for your 7-day trial.
Complete your brand profile so Lantern knows what to track:
1. **Company name and website URL** — your primary brand identity
2. **Key products or services** — Lantern will monitor mentions of each
3. **Competitors (optional)** — benchmark your visibility against them
4. **AI platforms to monitor** — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google
Lantern begins tracking your brand immediately after setup.
### Step 2: Configure monitoring
Define the queries you want to monitor across AI platforms:
* **Comparison queries** — "What are the best \[product category]?"
* **Direct brand queries** — "Tell me about \[your brand]"
* **Use case queries** — "Best solution for \[specific need]"
* **Competitive queries** — "Compare \[your brand] vs \[competitor]"
Start with 5–10 high-priority prompts and expand from there.
Add Lantern's attribution snippet to your site to measure AI-driven traffic:
```html theme={null}
```
Place this in your site's `` to start attributing AI-referred sessions to revenue.
### Step 3: Deploy your first agent
Go to **Agents** in the sidebar and click **New Agent**. Choose from ready-made templates — Blog Article Pipeline, AI Search Optimisation Article, Competitor Analysis — or build your own.
Agents run in the background on Lantern's servers. When finished, results appear in **Run History** with every step, output, and data point logged.
See [Agents — Getting Started](/agents/getting-started) for a full walkthrough.
## What you'll see in your dashboard
Real-time view of how every major AI engine represents your brand
Which websites AI cites when talking about your brand — and the gaps
Every AI-referred session traced through to conversion and revenue
Full logs of every agent run — steps, tool calls, outputs, and timing
# SEO Overview

* Pages with declining traffic (content refresh candidates)
* Technical health summary
## Running your first SEO audit
If no data exists yet, an empty state prompts you to run your first audit.
1. Click **Run SEO Audit** or go to the [Home chat](/home) and type "Run an SEO audit for \[your website]".
2. The agent crawls your site and populates all SEO pages with real data.
3. Return to the Overview for a summary, or go to [Site Audit](/seo/site-audit) for the full issue list.

**Date range** defaults to the last 28 days. Change it to 7 days, 90 days, or a custom range using the date picker.
## Connecting GSC
If GSC isn't connected yet, the page shows a connection prompt.
1. Go to **Settings → Integrations**
2. Click **Connect Google Search Console**
3. Sign in with Google and select your property
See [Integrations](/settings/integrations) for full setup steps.

# Who Lantern is for
Source: https://docs.asklantern.com/who-its-for
Lantern is built for marketing teams that need to win AI and organic search without growing headcount.
**CMO · VP Marketing · Head of Marketing · Head of Growth**
You need to scale pipeline without scaling headcount. Your current tool stack is fragmented, CAC is rising, and AI search is reshaping how buyers discover products — fast. Lantern gives your team the leverage to compete in that environment without adding bodies or budget.
**Head of Demand Gen · VP Growth · SEO Director · Content Director**
You own traffic and pipeline, and you're already hitting the ceiling of what your current SEO and content stack can do. AI search is both a threat to your existing rankings and the biggest acquisition opportunity in years. Lantern is built for exactly this moment — giving you the tools to act on it at scale.
**SEO Managers · Content Marketers · Growth Marketers · PR Managers · Performance Marketers**
You're the ones doing the work. Research, briefs, writing, optimising, publishing — across Ahrefs, Notion, a CMS, and whatever else your team has stitched together. Lantern replaces that entire loop with a single agent-driven workflow. You describe the goal, the agent executes it end-to-end, and you review before anything goes live.
## What each role uses Lantern for
| Role | Primary use |
| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| CMO / VP Marketing | Visibility into AI search performance; exec-level reporting |
| Head of Growth | AI citation monitoring, competitor gap analysis, pipeline attribution |
| SEO Director | Site audits, crawl reports, keyword research, content briefs |
| Content Director | End-to-end content pipelines from keyword to published article |
| Growth Marketer | Landing pages, competitor gap analysis, Google Ads copy |
| PR Manager | Press releases, journalist pitches, executive briefings |
| Performance Marketer | Ad copy, campaign structure, targeting briefs |
