# Traffic

> See how people reach your website, with a focus on AI-generated traffic.

The Traffic page shows website visits with specific focus on traffic arriving from AI-powered search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.

## With Google Analytics (GA4) connected

If GA4 is connected, the page shows:

* **Total sessions** over the selected period
* **AI referral sessions** — traffic from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and similar tools
* **Session trend chart**
* **Top pages** by session count
* **Country breakdown**
* **AI platform breakdown** — which AI tools are sending traffic

Connect GA4 at **Settings → Integrations**. See [Integrations](/settings/integrations).

## Without GA4 (script-based tracking)

If GA4 is not connected, Lantern can track visits via a lightweight script. The page provides a one-line script tag to add to your site's `<head>`.

Script-based tracking shows:

* Total visit count
* AI referral attribution
* Recent visit log with timestamp, page, and source

## AI referrals

The AI Referrals metric is the most important number on this page. It measures traffic arriving from AI-powered search. A rising count means your brand citations in AI models are translating into real website visits.

<Note>
  A rising AI Visibility score without a matching rise in AI referrals suggests AI models mention you but don't link to you. Check the [Citations](/analytics/citations) page for opportunities.
